Whether you’re planning a concert or event, spreading the word on a new business or publicizing an emerging project, marketing and promotions are the keys to building public awareness in your brand. As an old adage goes, marketing doesn’t cost;it pays. And Dallas-based marketing specialist Louis Anthony has been receiving dividends for quite some time now for his impeccable abilities. From humble days as street promoter for independent Dallas artists to working behind the scenes of TJs DJs Tastemakers Only Conference to holding down project manager position for Divadend Entertainment’s national PPR 101 Conference, Louis Anthony demands results. In 2007,he started doing street promotions for local reggae artist name J Santos and Hip-Hop artist Shot. Anthony handed out flyers, hung up posters and set up shows for his artists. He quickly learned the ropes in grassroots promotions and continued to further build onto his resume by playing an integral role as a volunteer assistant for the 6th annual Texas Summer Music Conference. He cut his teeth as a TJs DJs quarterly Tastemakers Only Conference and the 2008 Ozone Awards in Houston. His duties for both events included registration, helping with backstage setup and working listening suites. Adding more bullet points to his resume thereafter,he held down marketing for PartyChaser, a promotions company that holds upscale events around Dallas. And if that were not enough, he made an even bigger name for himself as a contributing writer for Hip-Hop website thamod.com. Nowadays, Anthony is working even harder. He is currently project management for Atlanta-based Divadend Entertainment’s national Professional Public Relations 101 Conference (PPR 101) and is responsible for marketing, promoting, and coordinating the event. “You can achieve anything that is in your heart,” he advises. “Keep grinding and continue to learn from individuals on a higher level than you are. Be focused on your future.”

This past weekend I attended the PPR 101 Conference in Berkeley Ca. The conference was created by Chiq Simms the “Goddess of PR” and Louis Anthony of Divadend Entertainment

The PPR 101 Conference is social networking to inform and motivate local artist, management, labels etc. on the most effective ways to receive maximum exposure and visibility in the media. The conference consisted of panel discussions and an artist showcase, which select individuals were chosen to go on to perform on BET, 106 and Park.

Attendees had the opportunity to network & inter act with some of the top entertainment journalists, editors, critics, publicists, marketers and television show hosts in the game.

Now, I’ll be first to admit… When I first heard about the conference coming to town, I was a little apprehensive of the whole format. Because we’ve seen so many similar events before that didn’t produce any results. But, I did my research and read the testimonials of the event in other cities and I was convinced it was worth checking out for myself. And I’m glad I did. Because Chiq Simms delivered on everything outlined in the event. I met some of the coolest Tastemakers in the game, networked with other prominent individuals in our local artisan community, and got to reconnect with other industry professionals and artists who I already know, but never get the chance to sit down with face to face & see what type of synergy we can make together.
